Get to know our Challenge Potters
Twelve potters are ready to take on the challenge of making 50 or more bowls.
Their bowls will be available in a special Signature Bowl Challenge area.
Each Challenge Potter will also be donating a
showcase piece for the silent auction.

Showcase piece: Big platter about 15" wide

Born and raised here, on Kauai, Big Island, and Oahu, I've enjoyed art all my life. I fell in love with the malleability and flow of clay and now combine it with the flowing brush strokes of Sumie paired with whimsy. Pottery is my therapy, my escape, and my joy!
Leah and Bob York
Off the Clock Studios
Showcase piece: Large bowl, approximately 12" wide x 6" tall
Donation: 50-60 bowls
Leah and Bob York create individual and collaborative work in their home studio in central Oahu. Bob's focus is on thrown, functional pieces, primarily vases and bowls. Leah creates both thrown and hand built pieces, as well as sculptural work. Their collaborative work satisfies their need to create and decorate at a fast pace.

Mark Kuhn is originally from southwestern PA, and has been behind the potter's wheel for over 25 years. His passion for pottery started when he was in high school, which led him to pursue further training in the medium. He received a degree in art education, with a concentration in ceramics from California University of PA in the early 90’s. In July 2013, he relocated from PA to Hawaii, and has become involved in the local artist community, including the Hawaii Potters' Guild. He has a passion for functional, wheel thrown ceramics, which integrate both high craftsmanship and sculptural alterations.

Holly's journey with clay began just a few years ago at the Hawaii Potters' Guild. Handbuilding was the start of her clay practice, but it was the wheel that brought her into a fuller immersion with clay. Every facet of wheel throwing from wedging to trimming to glazing offers daily opportunities to practice patience and thought, so much so that she likens it to her ashtanga yoga practice which encompasses her mind, body and spirit as well.
